Mercedes-Benz W124 Coupe – Classic Beauty for Every Car Aficionado
28.09.2016 г.
The Mercedes-Benz W124 Coupe is guaranteed to turn heads, with its extremely good looks and solid build quality. A true classic in every sense of the word, this one is as great under the hood as it is outside.
The indestructible W12’4’s sleek Coupe version was primarily based on the shortened floorpan of the saloon. This proved to a very enjoyable and entertaining drive, particularly in the 6-cylinder form. Similar with the saloon, this was a real masterclass of styling, overseen by the design team of Brunco Sacco. Even though this was closely based on the 4-door, the brand new coupe roof was beautifully integrated and elegant at the same time. Despite its shorter wheelbase that is 4 inches lower than that of the Saloon, the Coupe managed to be very room inside for such an attractive car and it can also confidently and easily accommodate up to four adults even on longer trips at high speeds.
This was originally launched in 300CE and 230CE form, with the smaller ride featuring a smooth 2.3-liter fuel injected four. However, the 300CE was definitely the official start of the range, which, up to this day, is still driving much better than it looks.
It was initially powered by the 178bhp 12-valve engine, yet in the 1990 model, this was joined by the 24-valve version which has 217bhp, and for most people, it is a true must-have. Similar with the saloon, you can also order the Coupe with the self-leveling suspension. There might be a need for you to pay a bit more than suggested for one of these, particularly if this comes with a manual transmission.
On the other hand, the Cabriolet was a later addition to this range that was launched back in 1991, first in 300CE E-24 form. A bit over a year later, the models have been realigned as a part of the minor facelift to be the E-Class, to officially become the E220 and E320 in year 1993. This was so far the priciest model in the 4-seat open top class, with the Audi Cabriolet and Saab 900enjoying more sales on the back of their lower prices. However, right now, it is reflected in higher values for Mercedes-Benz. Both the super desirable Cabriolet and Coupe are highly sought after and up to now, they continue to attract serious values. The production of the Coupe officially ended in 196 and after a year, the Cabriolet was also phased out.
