It was in January 2013 when Mercedes-Benz formally pulled the sheets on their CLA Class during the North American International Auto Show. It was some gamble for this German automaker as the car combines an entry-level and compact platform with fastback coupe roofline and four doors. Good thing that this formula did work and CLA rose to becoming a smash hit as it sold in record numbers all over the world. Together with the more pedestrian specification was AMG model, a hotrod which boasted of driver oriented interior amenities, aggressive styling, serious power boost and sharper suspension. Recently, the AMG CLA45 got further underhood performance and for 2017, Mercedes gives this with a fresher take in the form of new cabin equipment and body components.
Mercedes AMG CLA45 Exterior
According to Mercedes, they originally intended CLA45 to look like the bigger and more imposing CL% AMG, which is why it is not a surprise that similarities are very abundant. It is still true with the 2017 model year, down to its slew of small tweaks in the exterior styling rendered for the newest CLA refresh.
In front, you can see the new fascia, dominated by the traditional radiator grille that is finished in silver chrome then bisected from the tri-pointed star of Merc. You can also see the latest A-wing design front bumper which has matte titanium grey inserts combined with the high gloss black canards in its corners.
Mercedes AMG CLA45 Interior
Similar with the exterior, CLA45 also has aggressive cues in its cabin in case you forget the performance oriented disposition. It translates to the steel sport pedals that have grip enhancing rubber bumps, AMG-specific instrumentation, and AMG-specific flat bottomed steering wheel.
Not many things changed in t2017 model year, with the layout and look basically similar to the earlier model and you can get x-cross air vents, lots of red contrast stitching and highly bolstered sport seats.
Mercedes AMG CLA45 Under the Hood
Nothing much changed with CLA45 as it still sports the turbocharged 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine, producing 375 horsepower at 6,000 rpm with 350 pound feet of torque at 2,250 rpm. You can also expect to get the eco-friendly start and stop feature together with the ear hole friendly active exhaust flap.
Mercedes AMG CLA45 Driving Impressions
When it comes to performance, Mercedes claims that the CLA45 is now boasting improved aerodynamics with lower coefficient of drag as compared to their outgoing model.
Mercedes AMG CLA45 Convenience
The convenience at CLA45 AMG is made even better through the hands-free access to the cargo area, a choice that is available in the Premium Package. You only need to swing your foot around its rear bumper for popping the trunk.
Mercedes AMG CLA45 Infotainment
Infotainment has been upped with the new optional package of Smartphone Integration which provides voice-activated control through Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The rear view backup camera has been added to its list of standard pieces of equipment just like the slimmer looking and freestanding infotainment display screen of 8 inches.
