For those who are searching for the mainstream brands’ performance crossover, your options used to be a bit limited. However, things have changed over the course of years as carmakers start rolling out models like the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Dodge Durango SRT.
The recent addition to the fray is none other than the Ford Edge ST that celebrates its debut at North American International Auto Show. Although this model is not as powerful as the Trackhawk or Durango, this features the twin-turbo 2.7 L V6 engine that can produce 335 horsepower and 380 pound feet of torque. This is combined with the 8-speed automatic transmission and standard system of all wheel drive.
While these figures are not necessarily earth shattering, Ford claims that Edge ST boasts of the most powerful V6 type engine in the class. This is a health increase as well compared to the earlier Edge Sport that came with the same engine at 350 pound feet torque and 315 horsepower.
Aside from the improved engine, Edge ST is also integrated with the sport tuned suspension and the special Sport mode providing a throttle response that is more aggressive, sharper barking of the engine, revised patterns in shifting, and more robust and solid exhaust note.
As far as styling is concerned, this crossover boasts of a more aggressive appearance because of its sportier front fascia and mesh grille. This model also comes with new side skirts, one of kind dual exhaust system, as well as the 20-inch wheels that could be outfitted with tires only meant for summer.
There are also a few modifications in the interior, such as the unique seats complete with ST badging as well as additional bolstering. There are also paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel and the scuff plates of Ford Performance.
