The Consumer Electronics Show still keeps going on as BMW didn't wait long before they rolled out the new i3 Rearview Mirror and i8 Mirrorless ideas. For starters, the i8 Mirrorless concept focuses on the two rearview cameras mounted on holders that are aerodynamically optimized. The rearview cameras took the place of the model's side mirrors as the concept itself foresees the mounting of a third one fixed on the edge of the rear windscreen.
All images provided by the total three mounted cameras will come into a single one displaced on a high-resolution screen as a replacement of the typical rearview mirror. According to BMW, the result of all that should provide a way better viewing angle which could be gained from both interior and exterior mirrors.
The usage of a digital rearview mirror is expected to provide warning signals on the screen if any. For example, such mirrors can give drivers a signal when or if another vehicle is approaching in the same lane as it can also warn whenever a driver is about to switch lanes.
Apart from the i8 Mirrorless idea, BMW unveiled the i3 Extended Rearview Mirror concept.
The automobile company saved us details regarding the model, but did confirm the mounting of cameras atop the roof of the vehicle. Overlaid on interiors mirrors, the images received from the camera are bound to fairly extend and improve drivers' field of vision.
